I don't quite understand what Computer Aided Drafting and Geographic Information Systems are... Explain?

Well, I toured the local AVC (Area Vocational Center) and I was looking into a few things. My father suggests doing CAD & GIS and I really don't know what they are. I would just like to know what they are and what careers they lead into. Thanks.
